Fairfax County's newest fire station is now operational to provide emergency
services to the Burke community. The $4.8 million facility is the new
home to the Burke Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department and personnel of
the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department assigned to the Burke community.
The station can house up to 28 firefighters and has interior parking for
eight emergency vehicles. It also has interior and exterior training facilities
and several innovative features.
The new facility was built to replace the previous Burke volunteer fire
station that was severely damaged by fire in January 1997. County fire
officials worked closely with the Burke volunteer organization to complete
the 5-year-long project to develop the design, obtain approval, and construct
the new station. The new fire station is designed to provide volunteer
and career emergency personnel the best possible environment and resources
for them to respond to emergencies quickly, safely, and effectively.
In addition to providing emergency services to the Burke area, the new
station offers a meeting hall that supports community activities and is
also available for rent. Weekly bingo games are also held in the meeting
hall.

The Volunteer Department at Burke is very interested in ensuring that
this new station not only helps us to better serve our community as an
emergency service, but that the meeting hall also becomes a central focus
of the community by supporting various civic activities.
