Second Station
The Burke Volunteer Fire Department celebrated its 15th anniversary in 1963. At
that time the department had 47 active members (56 total members) including
the three paid firefighters. The station had four fire engines and one
ambulance protecting a community of approximately 40 square miles. By
this time, the department was in the planning stages for building a new
fire station. This new building was dedicated on November 3, 1963. It
was heavily damaged by fire in 1997 and was replaced by the station in
use today.
